CDC Designates May as Hepatitis C Awareness Month

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has designated May as Hepatitis C (HCV) Awareness Month. Did you know that New Mexico has one of the highest newly reported cases of chronic HCV in the U.S. with >100 cases per 100,000 population? A New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) 2022 publication (EndHepC-NM) encourages healthcare providers and organizations across New Mexico to align efforts in eliminating HCV transmission by 2030. Over 45,000 New Mexicans have HCV, and many are unaware. SYNCRONYS, New Mexico’s Health Information Exchange, partnered with Rhodes Group to streamline clinicians’ prior authorization workflow through a targeted intervention tool (HCV Summary) integrated into the SYNCRONYS portal. Through this strategic alliance, we have begun to break data silos, streamline clinician assessments of new patient referrals, and assist payers in achieving member treatment and sustained virologic response goals (Figure 1).
